Shooting results in one app: Meyton, DISAG, WM-Shot & more
In short: Ring Reader is a digital training diary for sport shooters. With Ring Reader you import all your results: the paper target via phone photo, QR code and PDF from Meyton, photos of result sheets or screens right at the range from Meyton, DISAG, SIUS, SETA & co., files from WM-Shot and Sport Quantum. That’s currently 22 formats, with a searchable history and statistical analysis. All in one app instead of five apps and a binder full of paper slips.
My real problem was never scoring a single target. It was that my results were everywhere: training as phone photos, the league match in WM-Shot, one range on DISAG, the next a Meyton with a printed PDF, small bore as screenshots in yet another app. I couldn’t tell whether I was improving. I never saw it all side by side.
Add the analog part at home: a binder of result printouts, paper targets from the club match, handwritten notes and slips that just said “92, 94, 89”. No date, no discipline. Probably in last winter’s jacket pocket.
Paper chaos: why a pile of printouts is not a training diary
Paper can do a lot. Three things it can’t do: search, compare, remember.
Try finding the result of February’s second league match: five minutes of leafing, three strips along the way where it’s unclear whether they were training or a scored match. A pile of printouts is one-way data storage: something always goes in, nothing ever comes out. No average, no trend, no answer to “have I improved over the last six months?” Not because the data is missing, but because it can’t be analyzed, or even found.
How I bring all my results together in Ring Reader
This is how I use Ring Reader today:
- My training at my own club I scan directly: photograph the target, the result is there in seconds.
- Competitions on other people’s ranges I import. The data belongs to me, but I don’t control the system. With one or two range manufacturers, getting your data out is actually quite difficult. Still, I can import the result into Ring Reader, via photo, file, URL or QR code.
- Old results on paper, e.g. result printouts from Meyton, DISAG & co., Ring Reader reads straight from a photo. That’s how the old binder moves into your history, piece by piece.
22 formats: Sport Quantum, Meyton, DISAG, WM-Shot, SIUS, SETA & co.
The reason this works at all: Ring Reader reads a surprising number of formats. Currently it’s 22: from your own paper target (air rifle, air pistol, small-bore 50m, sport pistol) through Meyton, DISAG, SIUS and SETA printouts, screen photos, and app screenshots, to WM-Shot, XML, JSON, and CSV files. Many of these import options are based on requests and test images or test files from users. If something’s missing for you, just say so.
That means: whatever range system you shoot on or whichever scoring software your club uses, your result finds a way into your history. Which format carries which data (some only the rings, others the complete shot pattern with coordinates) is laid out clearly in the chapter Supported formats.
A number becomes a trend: statistics across every range
This is where I get the biggest benefit: all results flow into one analysis. A single result is just a number. Twenty results across a season are a trend. In the analysis view I now see right away how my training is developing. What is my mean point of impact doing, how are horizontal and vertical spread improving? What do I need to work on? I also see whether I’m getting better in my competitions or just treading water, and that across all range systems.
And finding things again is no longer a chore either: the best March result for the club championship entry? Search, filter, three seconds. No leafing through binders, no “it has to be in here somewhere”, no faded strip.
That’s the whole point: not another app alongside the others, and not another pile, but one single place where everything ends up and can be found again.
Frequently asked questions
Which range systems does Ring Reader support?
Meyton (printout, screen photo, PDF, XML, CSV, LogMan), DISAG (printout, screen photo, ShotsApp screenshots, JSON), WM-Shot (file, URL, printout), SIUS, SETA, Sport Quantum, ABVisie, Intarso, SKAS, Proto-S and BlackHole. On top of that, your own paper target via phone photo. 22 formats in total.
Can I back-fill old results from binders and score books?
Yes. Just photograph result printouts. Ring Reader reads rings, Teiler and, depending on the format, the complete shot pattern. Handwritten results go in via manual entry. Coming from another app, you import your old history once.
Do I need an electronic scoring system?
No. If you shoot on paper targets (like I do): just photograph them, done. Ring Reader scores them with decimal rings, Teiler and shot pattern.
