Install the App
Ring Reader is a web app (PWA). You don’t need an app store — the app runs right in your browser. After your first successful scan, a banner appears on the Capture page suggesting you install Ring Reader.
Android / Chrome
- Tap the “Install Ring Reader” banner (“Add to your home screen for quick access”).
- Confirm with “Install”.
If the banner doesn’t appear: open the Chrome menu (⋮) and choose “Add to home screen”.
iPhone / iPad (Safari)
- Open ringreader.app in Safari.
- Tap the share button (□↑).
- Choose “Add to Home Screen”.
On iPhone, an additional hint banner appears in the app to walk you through the steps.
On iPhone, push notifications — for example on rank changes in challenges — only work when Ring Reader is installed on the Home Screen. How to enable notifications is covered in the chapter Settings.
Desktop (Chrome, Edge)
Ring Reader works on the desktop right in your browser — no installation needed. If you like, you can still install the app: click the install icon in your browser’s address bar.
Sending photos straight to Ring Reader
Once Ring Reader is installed, the app shows up in your phone’s share menu. You can send target photos straight from your gallery or camera app to Ring Reader via the share function — they land automatically on the Capture page and are scored there.
Why install? The installed app starts faster, runs full-screen without a browser bar, and sits as an icon on your home screen — just like a native app.
